About Us

The Beverly Montessori School is located in the Beverly neighborhood on Chicago's southwest side.  This is a beautiful and historic community that boasts homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Burley Griffin, Louis Sullivan and Murray Hetherington.  Transportation to the downtown area of Chicago is only 20 minutes away by the convenient Metra-Rock Island railroad.   The CTA bus service and the Dan Ryan expressway are other transportation options.

Excellent schools, libraries, parks, and the Beverly Art Center, Ridge Historical Society, and other programs for children abound in this family-oriented community.

Our school was founded by five couples interested in Montessori education for their own children.  These original founding parents still serve on our board of directors.  They started the Beverly Montessori School in September 1967 with Stase Vaisvila, as the head of school.  Mrs. Vaisvila served as the guiding force of the school for 20 years.  Beverly Montessori School was the first Montessori school in the Beverly neighborhood.  It serves as a training site for student teachers taking the Montessori teacher training.  Now this neighborhood boasts a Montessori daycare, a public and private Montessori elementary school, many of the staff having been part of the Beverly Montessori School community.

The Beverly Montessori School has been affiliated with the American Montessori Society since 1969 and is a member of the Association of Illinois Montessori Schools.  Directresses are certified with the American Montessori Society.
